For Carolyn: Dining Room Window and Living Room Pillow Project

Carolyn,
Thank you so much for your willingness to work with Cathy and I to finish this project.  I am so excited to talk with you about the design for the dining room and get your feedback on what we have done so far.  The living room and family room window treatments should be ready for installation the 2nd week in August (fingers crossed).
I have outlined everything below in 4 sections:
1)  A Quick Tour of the Downstairs
2)  Dining Room Window Proposal
3)  Pillow Proposal
4)  Dining Room from all Angles
5)Dining Room Measurements

A Quick Tour of the Downstairs:

Cathy and I are waiting for the window treatments to be installed before we shop for the rest of the furniture and accent pieces (not to say I haven't been brainstorming).  I have written descriptions below the pictures so you can get a good sense of the scope of the entire project ;-)

This is the family room.  Custom drapes (inverted pleat with buttons) are in production for all 4 of these windows using the fabric below.  Cathy will buy ALL new furniture and decorations for this room.

Here is a picture of the kitchen/dining area.  I think I mentioned Diana is making stationary roman shades with london tails for these windows.  We are using the same fabric in the kitchen and family room.  FYI, those seat cushions on the stools are gone!  Out with the red; in with the grays, blues, and taupes.

Fabric for the family room and the kitchen.

And, here we have a "before" picture of the living room.  This is how it looked when I first saw it.  The door to the left provides access to a small study which is accessed through the family room/kitchen.

We have done some work to this room already, mainly rearranging some of the furniture.  A few small purchases were made:  console for behind the couch, lamps, garden stools, and 2 small chairs.  The above picture to the right is of the fabric we are using for the valances in this room.

We also purchased 2 of these benches - a One Kings Lane steal!

Here is another picture of the living room.  I have placed an image of the fabric scheme Cathy and I have talked about.  The small scale pattern is the Duralee fabric that could work for the dining room window treatments.  The living room and the dining room are somewhat connected so I think it's important that these two rooms are designed similarly, using some of the same fabrics.

This is the dining room that we are so excited to decorate with you!  The red paint has to go!  Cathy would like to keep the Revere Pewter color if possible (that's the color in the living room).

Also, thinking that light fixture doesn't work?  Would love to find something softer and more elegant.

Thinking a light blue color could be a good option for dining room or just an off white?  I'm really not sure what to do and would love your opinion.

Lastly for this section, I have included a picture of the kitchen/family room fabric and the living room fabric NEXT to the proposed dining room fabric.  Thoughts?

Dining Room Window Proposal:

This is the dining room.  If you look to the right you will notice that there is a door to the kitchen (one of our next projects is to pick out backsplash tiles).  There are 2 windows in the dining room and I have posted a bunch of pictures of this room at the end of this post.

Window treatment fabric?  As I mentioned over the phone I love the look of a roman with a petite valance.  Would love to also incorporate some blue into the treatments, per the color scheme above.

Your portfolio image is where I first fell in love with this style.  Love this picture and so does Cathy!!

Thinking the outside roman is the way to go...do you agree?  (We have outside mount on all other window treatments in the house.)  This image looks similar to your portfolio picture, but outside mount.

I ended up finding a picture of this "look" ...but only after I attempted to draw it ;-)  What do you think about blue fabric trim at the bottom (using the same fabric I find for living room pillows)?

Roman in the top left corner is a good example of how this would look.

Another option could be a full border using the blue fabric.  Again, thought I would share my sorry attempt at a drawing...

Picture of a bordered roman.
Can't wait to hear what you would do.

Pillow Proposal:

I love pillows and would be so excited if we could make some for this room.  I've included some options below of pillow designs, but understand that the cost of labor could get hefty if we do something fancy.  Would like to bring in the blue fabric and perhaps 2 pillows using the dining room window treatment fabric.  What would you do?

Blue pillows with the border we talked about over the phone.

Another image of this type of design.  I would also be happy just doing 4 blue pillows and 2 pillows using the Duralee dining room fabric.  Perhaps we could do a welt using opposite fabrics? Blue on Duralee pillows and Duralee on blue pillows.

Lastly for this pillow section I wanted to share this corner of the room.  I'm having a tough time figuring our what to do with this side, as the room is an awkward shape.  This is the second seating area (easy to see the flow from the other living room pic).
To the right of this picture is the dining room.
Would you paint those tall shelving units white?  This area is also where I think the room could benefit from having pillows that stand out!  FYI, Cathy wants to get rid of that coffee table.

Dining Room from all Angles:

I've included a lot more photos of the dining room below.  As I mentioned above, we would like to re-paint this room.  Cathy would like to keep the BM Revere Pewter and just paint the top...What do you think?  She has blue in the downstairs bathroom, upstairs master bedroom, and master bath so I thought that could be a good route if we keep it a really light color?  She has BM Ice Cubed Silver in her upstairs bathroom which is why I thought of that first.

Angle #2 (we are going to paint all of the base-boards)

Angle #3 (notice the pale yellow in between the living room and the dining room)

Inside frame is 2 inches

Do you think a wall covering could work instead of paining?

Thank you so much for working with us!  I'll look forward to talking with you about all of this when you have time.  Excited to hear any and all suggestions you have - and Cathy is thrilled to have you on board.

XOXO
